Dan Bell and Mark Cannella have been teaching Olympic Weightlifting for years. Their clinics often consist of three to four hours of hands on practical application where each participant is put through the positions and a learning progression for the lifts. However, while these courses are a great refresher or introduction to the lifts, a three to four hour intro course cannot provide the teaching tools and thorough understanding of technique that are vital to becoming a competent teacher of the Olympic lifts.
Coaching the Coach is designed for any coach who uses the Olympic lifts in their programing. A good coach understands that the efficacy of the Olympic lifts is largely dependent on the quality of the technique employed. Olympic lifts done with proper technique are more efficient and safer for an athlete, as well as more productive.
The course covers two days and will focus solely on how to teach proper technique. Participants will learn effective cues for correcting technical flaws, vital positions, teaching progressions, drills to reinforce technique lessons, and how to analyze video and properly incorporate it into their coaching, with special emphasis on using new video tools.
The course will be taught by Mark and Dan, with the aid of national level weightlifter Drew Dillon and international level weightlifter Holley Mangold. Every coach will leave the course with a far better understanding of the Olympic lifts, and we hope a few new friends in the world of Olympic style weightlifting.
