I N T E R V I E W W I T H R O B I N G O A D Tell me about your background? I started in 1983 as a teenager, in the first women's worlds ever in 1987 down in Datona --- then listed on every World team up until the Olympics in 2000 I was a competitor at the inaugural 1999 Pan Am and the 2000 Olympics...... I pretty much laid low since 2000, I had three children and started getting back into it last summer...and I was just kind of pleasantly surprised that its working. Which club are you affiliated with? I'm affiliated with Coffee's Gym Tell me about your daughter? she'll be 10 this month, she has been a competative gymnast been and still is competative gymnast level 7 --- so she has a long backlog of basic core strength from gymnastics, she's been lifting for a year --- she was the best lifter last year at the Junior Olympics in Virginia -- right now weightlifting is her second sport since gymnastics is so time consuming really when you are young thats the time you have to take the opportunity to be in gymnastics -- she trains twice a week for weightlifting, and she goes to about 6 meets a year --- the summer is the off time for gymastics, so its a great time for her to go lift at the Junior's or the Junior Olymipics it kind of works out.
Do you do any coaching? We actually have our own weightlifting team, but that's separate from who I lift for. My coach he sponsors our team, in serveral different ways, he got us a little bar for our young team ---- he lets us coach the little ones, he mainly coachs all the older girls, so I have two affilliations one the team I lift for and the one I coach --- but mainly Dean does more of the actual coaching than I do with the girl's team. Now what about Dean's background? Well it pretty much mimmics mine, started in the early 80s, he's just a couple years older than me --- he was a Pam Am team member and a Pan Am meadlist --- he's been to five Olympic trials, they only come once every four years so he's been the top of his game for a long time! What about his involvement with the sport?
He's lifting this weekend trying to get back into shape --- to maybe make an attempt for the Olympic trials again next summer --- and
its going to be in Atlanta where we're from, at Georgia Tech, it would be awesome for us to both be able to lift there in the Olympic trials.

190kg I spoke with C H A D V A U G H N and he had this to say: "coming into this competition I just wanted to put in a good total to get myself on the world team and I was coming in probably stronger than I've ever been at this body weight and my snatches had been going really good --- so I opened up a little higher than I normally do and I was hoping to get a PR in the snatch and things didn't go quite as I planned in the snatch but I was able to come back in the clean and jerk felt strong and I was finally able to get the American record that I've been chasing for about three or four years..." "I feel pretty good about it, i'm going to go back and reevaluate a few things things and get it to where I can snatch more in the competition and put those two lifts together for that bigger total..."
"I want to say that the arnold is the best competition I've been to --- I love coming to the Arnold and
I hope that they continue doing it every year and if they can get any other competitions the Columbus Weightlifting club they put on the best meets and they really do --- its the best for the athletes --
its our only chance to win prizes, where most other sports have stuff like that and this just not something that we have, I hope this is a starting block for what our competitions can be in the future, and I just really appreciate it."
